TV, radio stations desperate for story

It's been a desperate week of talk about the "Monday Night Football" opening starring Terrell Owens of the Eagles and naked Nicolette Sheridan of "Desperate Housewives."

The latest national cause celebre has been the topic on the national talk shows on CNN, CNBC, Fox News, and more.

Locally, it's been discussed on sports radio WIP 610-AM all week. For the WIP hosts who complain about the opening, they need to look no further than the station's "Wing Bowl," which features scantily clad women.

For those who complain about the content on ABC at 9 p.m., check out the content of the syndicated shows that air much earlier here such as "Will and Grace," "That 70's Show," "Seinfeld" and "Friends."

For the Eagles, who "wished it never aired," their cheerleader lingerie calendars are for sale.

If the Eagles lose to Washington or Terrell Owens has a bad game on Sunday, the controversy will be blamed.

Job hunting

Former WIP 610-AM host Jody McDonald is looking for a full-time job. McDonald was fired following his mid-day shift on WFAN 660-AM in New York City last Friday. Low ratings are to blame.

McDonald, who has maintained a home in South Jersey with his wife and 9-year-old daughter throughout his days at WFAN, will continue to co-host the WYSP 94.1-FM Eagles pre-game show with Steve Bucci and Bill Bergey. He also does a horse racing show on cable in New York.

"This is the first time in my career that I've been fired. I'm leaving all options open and am willing to talk to all interested parties," said McDonald, a nine-year veteran of WIP.

WFAN, WIP and WYSP are all owned by Infinity Broadcasting.

Dream on

David Holmes of Kent State upset Grant Thompson for the coveted "Dream Job" of ESPN. Holmes, 22, won a one-year "SportsCenter" contract.

Holmes, who unsuccessfully tried out for "Dream Job" the last two years, made the show through the "Wendy's Wild Card" option. He beat Thompson, a 28-year-old actor and Harvard graduate, whom many observers considered the favorite to win the competition.

The next "Dream Job" will feature former professional athletes competing for an ESPN analyst job.

ESPN has another new "SportsCenter" anchor, Fred Hickman. Hickman, best known for his work on CNN most recently was at the YES network in New York.

Old news

Fox's NFL pre-game show did the same story about the health risks of NFL coaches that was done a week before on HBO's "Inside the NFL."

Mr. Personality

Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter is downright George Foreman-esque towards the media in his second tour of duty here. He does a show on WIP, appears regularly on Comcast SportsNet, and is always available for a quote. I'm waiting for the Jeremiah Trotter Grill.

Bad vibrations

Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant got a healthy chorus of boos when he presented an award at the American Music Awards Monday in Los Angeles.

Clear signal

Let's hope that WPHT 1210-AM wins the Phillies contract from signal-challenged WPEN 950-AM.
