Man Keeps World Abreast Of Eagles by Laura Nachman For the Haverford Press September 14, 2004 Eagles' fans get their information from Havertown's Dave Spadaro, the "quarterback" of www.philadelphiaeagles.com. As the director of internet development and publications for the team, Spadaro, 38, is responsible for the content on the popular web site, which gets over 100,000 visitors a day. "It's a seven day a week job. We are obsessed with making sure that the site is always up to date," he said. The hard work paid off, as www.philadelphiaeagles.com was named by the NFL as the best overall team web site last season. The graduate of West Chester Henderson High School and Temple University has been covering the team since his college days as a member of the college radio station. After beginning his professional career as the Eagles' beat writer for The West Chester Daily Local, Spadaro became the editor of the weekly publication Eagles' Digest, then became a team employee in 1997 when the Eagles made "Digest" a part of the team. Shortly after that, he took over the web site. In addition, Spadaro is the host of "Inside the Eagles with Andy Reid," Saturdays at 6 p.m. on UPN 57, the host of the Eagles' pregame and halftime shows on WYSP 94.1-FM, part of the WTXF "Eagles' Game Day Live" show, and is the co-host of "Monday Night Quarterback" with Tom Cardella on WBCB 1490-AM from 8-9 p.m. on Mondays. He also appears during the season on the "Angelo Cataldi Show" on WIP 610-AM the morning after Eagles' games. On game days, Spadaro does his television and radio duties, then updates the web site throughout the game. After the game is completed, Spadaro and his staff of four "write all night long" to have the website complete with the story, photos, audio, and more. He also has his own section, "On the Inside with Dave Spadaro." "I love being part of the team and have fun feeding the Eagles' fans. The organization is wonderful to work for. I have nothing but great respect for Andy Reid. Luckily, I have the support of my wife (Lori) and kids (Daniel and Julia -- third- and second-graders at Chatham Park) who understand how busy it is during the season." |
