Friday was the final day on the air for KYW 4 p.m. news anchor Denise Saunders.  According to a station spokesperson, Saunders was informed by station management Thursday night that her contract would not be renewed. Saunders, who most recently co-anchored the 4 p.m. newscast with Marc Howard, also did the 6 p.m. news and the weekends during her tenure at Channel 3.

No word yet on who will permanently replace Saunders.  Leading contenders seem to be 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news anchor Alycia Lane, who is doing the 4 p.m. show now, and noon co-anchor Pat Ciarrocchi.

Let's hope that Wally Kennedy, who completed a 20-year run at WPVI Sunday with the final episode of "Sunday Live," will land at another station soon.  Though "Live" did well in the ratings, it was canceled to make way for the weekend edition of "Good Morning America."  Kennedy's other shows,  "Philly After Midnight," "AM Live," and "AM/Philadelphia," also were the top rated shows in their timeslots.

Kennedy is best known for his hosting duties on the former weekday morning shows, "AM Philadelphia" and "AM Live."  When "AM Live" was canceled for the ABC show "The View," Kennedy was given the local late night show "Philly After Midnight."  Then, when that show was canceled, Kennedy's role at the station was reduced to specials and the weekly shows "Sunday Live," and then "Inside Story" when Marc Howard went to Channel 3.

Though "Inside Story" won't lose its timeslot due to the new "Good Morning America," station insiders say that the show will get new panelists to join a new host, who will probably be either Rick Williams or Monica Malpass.

Meanwhile, possibilities for Kennedy could be roles on the morning talk shows "10" on WCAU or "Your Morning" on CN8.  Or maybe KYW, which once was a leader in local programming with shows like "Evening Magazine" and "People Are Talking," could resurrect a local talk show.  Or with Kennedy's news and issues experience, he could join to any news department. It would be safer.  News never gets canceled.

Speaking of "10," the producers of the show need to get hosts Lauren Hart and Bill Henley on the same page in the wardrobe department. Though they both look nice, they look like they are dressed for different shows.  Henley continues with his conservative "weatherman" suit and tie, while Hart is dressing like she's going to one of her music gigs.

KYW leads with 38 Mid-Atlantic Emmy nominations.  Comcast SportsNet is next with 32, CN8 follows with 23, and WCAU has 21 nods.  Also, WTXF has 12, the Eagles Television Network has 11, NJN has 9, WPHL has 6, and UPN 57 has 2.  WPVI and the Phillies have one apiece.
