the word for Cataldi, Paolantonio by Laura Nachman Bucks County Courier Times www.bradyresidence.com/channelsurfing.html October 7, 2004 WIP 610-AM morning show host Angelo Cataldi and ESPN national correspondent Sal Paolantonio aren't pals anymore. The former Philadelphia Inquirer reporters haven't talked since Paolantonio left Cataldi's show for the competing "Michael Smerconish Show" on WPHT 1210-AM in the summer of 2003. According to Paolantonio, there was no "falling out." "It was strictly a business decision. WPHT offered to pay me and I was given the chance to talk politics," said Paolantonio, a former political reporter who currently teaches a political journalism course at St. Joseph's University. "I don't have one bad word to say about Angelo. He built up my name recognition tremendously." Paolantonio then added: "In comparison to Michael's show, Angelo's show has become irrelevant. It's not worth it to listen to it for football news, since there are two guys on there [Al Morganti and Keith Jones] who know nothing about football." Reached by telephone, Cataldi would only say: "I'm not going to promote Sal Paolantonio. I know he desperately needs my help right now, but I'm not going to give it to him." TO Tour Catch Terrell Owens on "The Jimmy Kimmel Show" at midnight tonight on ABC. On Sunday, he'll grace the "Fox NFL Pregame Show" at noon. Marzano for manager? Some fans are mentioning Comcast SportsNet analyst John Marzano as a replacement for Larry Bowa as the Phillies manager. Of course, the Phils previously dipped into the CSN pool for ex-pitching coach Joe Kerrigan, who is available to return to CSN again. All bets off The Pete Rose movie "Hustle" scored a disappointing 1.4 rating for ESPN. In comparison, its other original movies, "A Season on the Brink" and "The Junction Boys" scored in the 3.0s. Coincidentally, the 1.4 number almost matches Rose's uniform No. 14. Do you believe in miracles? ABC's Al Michaels will be awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday. Taking it on the chin To learn how Bucks County's Fred Bachmann does on "The Next Great Champ," viewers will have to watch Fox Sports Net. The show was "sent down to the minors" from Fox to FSN. It will air Sunday at 5 p.m. Soul survivors Philadelphia Soul bigwigs Ron Jaworski and Jon Bon Jovi got some face time on "Real World Philadelphia" Tuesday at 10 p.m. on MTV. The "Real Worlders" worked for the Soul during their time in town. Patrick returns Mike Patrick returns to the play-by-play microphone for "Sunday Night Football" on ESPN. Pat Summerall subbed for Patrick while Patrick recuperated from heart surgery. Better than "Mr. 3000?" Expect the high school football drama "Friday Night Lights," starring Billy Bob Thornton and Tim McGraw, to be the No. 1 movie this weekend. Bye, bye, Tony Good news about the Eagles bye this week. Inept Fox announcer Tony Siragusa won't be on the sidelines. October 8, 2004 7:52 AM |
