Golden Globes Connections
When Sophia Coppola accepted the "Golden Globe" award for Best Motion Picture:  Comedy or Musical" Sunday, the guy standing next to her was Havertown's Ross Katz.  Katz, who was a producer of the movie went to Temple and interned at WYSP 94.1-FM "back in the day."

For those watching the "Golden Globe Pre-Show" on E!, Philly's Molly Mayock was the movie expert answering questions from Joan and Melissa Rivers.  Mayock was the Hollywood reporter for WTXF's "Good Day Philadelphia" a few years ago.

WPVI weather anchor Dave Roberts was on "The Jimmy Kimmel Show" last week on ABC with his son, David Boreanaz of "Angel."  Roberts appeared from the "Action News" studio and showed a picture of Boreanaz from his first communion.

Less is More
So far, cutting the news to a half hour is working for WPHL.  Ratings are up 60-percent in the three weeks since the 10 p.m. show went to 30-minutes.  Monday through Sunday WPHL had a 2.68 household rating, up from 1.65.  Each rating point equals 28,743 homes.

Another good move by WPHL is putting "Sharon Osbourne" replays on at 7 a.m. weekdays.  It's a nice alternative (besides "The Waltons" on TV Land) to the tons of news.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Beatles appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," WMGK 102.9-FM will be doing a live "Breakfast with the Beatles" at the Lakeside Inn in Limerick, PA February 8 from 9-11 a.m.  Besides the show, there will be Beatles memorabilia dealers buying, selling and trading collectibles, trivia contests, special guests and more.  Andre Gardner hosts.

KYW 1060-AM film critic Bill Wine will be on the other side of the review as his play "Mixed Doubles" will be presented by the King of Prussia Players the first two weekends in February.  Mixed Doubles is about three interfaith married couples that gather regularly to play tennis against each other.  Wine and his wife Suzanne are in an interfaith marriage.  Wine is Jewish and his wife is Catholic.

Ticket to Rides
WPVI will air "Philly on Wheels," a preview of the Philadelphia Auto Show Saturday at 7 p.m.  Cecily Tynan and Karen Rogers host.

KYW-3 has been named the winner of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's 2003 Local Television Media Award.  The national award, which recognizes the special relationships between regional Komen Affiliates and their local media partners, will honor the 14-year old association between CBS 3 and the Philadelphia Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  CBS 3's Pat Ciarrocchi and Joanne Calabria, Communications Director, will accept this honor on behalf of the station at the national award ceremony in Denver, CO on February 6.

February sweeps starts Thursday.  I'll be curious to see if WTXF can get an 8 rating like last February.  With the outstanding start of "American Idol" and "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance," WTXF should be hopeful.

CN8 airs the "Arthur Fennell & Kenny Gamble Celebrity Billiards Championship" Sunday at 2 p.m.  Some of the participants are Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent, A.J. Feeley, and Koy Detmer of the Eagles and "Survivor's" Gervase Peterson.  It's got to be better than "Celebrity Poker."
