As LaSalle University recently celebrated the silver anniversary of its communications department, so did one of its original graduates, Paul Perrello, news director for Metro Networks.

Perrello has enjoyed a 25-career in the Philadelphia market, the bulk of it at the old WWDB 96.5-FM (1982-2000).

Perrello is in charge of the Metro news staff which provides news to around a dozen stations in town including WPEN 950-AM, WOGL 98.1-FM, WBEB 101-FM, and WPHT 1210-AM.

Not forgetting his alma mater, Perrello has been a professor in LaSalle’s communications department for almost as long as he has worked in the industry.

“I enjoy teaching because it’s good to be able to tell the kids what it is really like in the business,” said Perrello.

Perrello also serves on the Board of Governors for the March of Dimes “Achievement in Radio” (AIR) awards, which is happening today at the Adams Mark hotel in Philadelphia.

WPVI in a Landslide
On Election Day, viewers voted for “Action News,” as it had the highest ratings.  At 11 p.m., Jim Gardner anchored WPVI to a 16.5 rating/24 share.  WCAU, with Tim Lake and Renee Chenault-Fattah, was second with a 9.8 rating/14 share and KYW with Larry Mendte and Alycia Lane was in third with 5.5 rating/8 share.  Each local rating point equals around 30,000 households.

If October numbers hold up, then KYW will beat WCAU for second place at 11 p.m. in the news ratings for November sweeps. KYW had an 8.5 rating/14 share, while WCAU had an 8.3 rating/13 share.

The annual WPVI/Boy Scouts holiday food drive kicks off today at Love Park in Philadelphia at 11 a.m.  Residents are invited to bring canned goods to the event.  WPVI personalities Dave Roberts, Cecily Tynan, Scott Palmer, Matt O’Donnell, and Sarah Bloomquist will be on hand.

Cherry Hill, New Jersey drivers will be on display in tomorrow's "Motormouth" on VH1 at 11 p.m.  This hidden-camera show catches people singing in their cars.

VH1 darling Michael Ian Black, along with longtime cohorts Michael Showalter and David Wain of "Wet Hot American Summer" fame, will perform "Stella" at the TLA on South Street in Philadelphia Wednesday, November 17.  The hilarious camp spoof from a couple of years deserved to do better at the box office.

Here are a few more pop songs being used in commercials – “Draggin the Line” by Tommy James and the Shondells for Mitsubishi, "Rock and Roll" by Led Zeppelin for Cadillac, "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf for Chevrolet, "Lady" by Lenny Kravitz for Gap, "Steve McQueen" by Sheryl Crow for Wrangler, "Come On Get Happy" by the Partridge Family for the Pennsylvania Lottery, "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas for the Sims 2, and “Volunteers” by Jefferson Airplane for e-trade.
