As permanent midnight approaches for 6ABC's "Philly After
Midnight," the question becomes what will happen to host
Wally Kennedy?
When the five-day-a-week show ends tomorrow, Kennedy's role at
6ABC is reduced to the weekly "Sunday Live" and
occasional special events and parades until his contract expires
in October. 6ABC president and general manager Dave Davis said the
station has expressed interest in keeping Kennedy but also said
there wasn't a place in the news department for the popular and
respected talk show host, who has been with Channel 6 since 1984.
Kennedy is exploring all options, his agent, Lloyd Remick,
said. One option not available for Kennedy right now is a return
to his old radio station, 1210-AM. WPHT program director Grace
Blazer said there are no available spots at this time.
COMINGS & GOINGS?
According to a Fox-Philadelphia newsroom insider, incoming news
director Scott Matthews has a reputation for "cleaning
house" and that many newsroom employees should be
"sleeping with one eye open." Matthews, 32, joins Philly
from the Fox affiliate in Boston ... Todd Quinones is the new
reporter for KYW's "Eyewitness News." The 1996 graduate
of Albright College in Reading and native of Canadensis, Pa.,
jumps from Bakersfield, Calif., the 130th largest market in the
country, to Philadelphia, the fourth largest market ... The rest
of the country will get to see CN8's Robyn Stevens and her
miniskirts as she'll provide The Weather Channel with on-location
reports when severe weather hits the Delaware Valley as part of a
new partnership between CN8 and the Weather Channel. Also, Weather
Channel reporters will appear on CN8 for big weather stories. Mary
Fay, formerly of the now defunct Philly TV News is providing
business reports for CN8.
