It appears that Mike Missanelli has struck out in his attempt to make the switch from sports talk radio host to rock and roll disc jockey, as he was let go Friday afternoon by WMMR 93.3-FM after a little over a year at the station.

A release by WMMR program director Bill Weston, who began at the station last month stated:

"Mike Missanelli is a talented broadcaster who has been part of many successes at the radio station over the past year.  However we wish to go in another direction, one not ideally suited to Mike's talents. We wish him only the best in future endeavors."

When reached by phone Friday evening, Missanelli said the firing was very surprising.  "I thought the show was making strides.  This is the first time I've been let go in my professional career.  It feels kind of weird.  The Bristol native added, "It is tough to compete against (Howard) Stern.  It took him three years to make a dent in the ratings here."

"The Philly Guys" morning show, which featured Missanelli, former WIP 610-AM personality Joe Conklin, and Vinnie the Crumb placed 13th in the 12+ audience, and a disappointing 9th in their coveted 25-54 year old demographic.

Missanelli didn't mention WIP 610-AM, which also placed above WMMR in the 25-54 demographic in the morning.

Conklin, Crumb, and newsperson "Gina" will continue as WMMR will be "actively pursuing" a new host for the morning.

So what is next for Missanelli, an attorney who was a host for WIP for 11-years and spent two years as a sports anchor for WPHL?

"It's wide open.  I could practice law again.  WPHL knows where I am if they want me," Missanelli said of the sports anchor vacancy there.
